This June saw the beginning of our launch sequence to starting a new Church. This new community Church is to be situated on the St Giles estate, in the St Giles Community Centre.

As the Ignite Church team has headed out onto the estate ahead of our first pre-launch gathering we have met with several people who are really keen to see a new Church established on the estate. With the events and outreach that we already run on the estate, we have already made some new friends.

So how does it work?

On the first of June, and then every couple months after, we are having special events of some sort. Our first pre-launch gathering was a simple setup of Church for local people to come and see what Church might look like, and to ask questions about our plans. Our next pre-launch gathering will be an encounter night where we hope some sick or injured people will come along to be healed by God’s power. In previous meetings people have been healed of all sorts of pains and diseases.

As well as pre-launch gatherings that we’ll have bi-monthly, we’ll also be hosting some smaller get togethers on the estate. Our next one of these is at Grant’s house, on Addison Drive, where we’re having a men’s BBQ on the 22nd of June. Lads are also invited to this as it is an event where we aim to mentor lads to encourage them to become godly young men.

Throughout the year we will also be meeting with people for coffee or a beer. Everyone is welcome to ask questions or to get involved, although we do like to make it clear that our aim is engage with the unchurched, or people that wouldn’t normally go to Church. If Christians are interested in what we’re doing they need to know that they come to us to partner with us on mission, and that they’ll need to speak to their current leaders about such a mission.

So what’s next?

We need to build a team of volunteers that are keen to be a community oriented team of missionaries on the estate. Pastor Harry Goodwin and his wife Hannah will be heading up this new community Church. They will need a group of dedicated volunteers around them to make it work.

One such group of volunteers is the Labrum family. Grant and Kerry, and their family live on Addison Drive and they are fully committed to Jesus and his will that none should perish. Grant has been on the setup team on Moorland for the past couple of years, and is about to start an internship with Ignite Church.

We need volunteers to make refreshments, or to help setup. We need sound engineers, musicians, cleaners and community focussed befrienders. If you would like to help, we’d love for you to contact us.

Does it cost anything?

Our Church has a small income from the tithes and offerings that we are given on Sundays and Thursdays in our main meetings. We certainly would never charge for anything that we would call our mission, which is to give the people of St Giles, and the Glebe ward, a purpose and mission for God.

So the answer is no, nothing that we do should cost you anything, although during services you are welcome to join us in worship with song, hard work, and some sort of financial sacrifice if you so choose.
